Call 911

Newborn warning signs

Call 911 now if your baby:

  • Your baby is not breathing, is struggling to breathe, or has long pauses in breathing
  • Lips, tongue or face look blue or gray
  • Your baby is limp, or you cannot wake them
  • Your baby has a seizure

Call your baby's doctor right away if:

  • Your baby is younger than 3 months and has a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. Call your baby's doctor right away, even at night. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises a rectal temperature for young infants.

Keep newborn warning signs separate from your own symptoms. If you are unsure, call your baby's doctor or 911.
